Back in the days of audio and video cassettes, Memorex brand had commercials asking, “Is it Real or Is It Memorex?<\/a>” or “Is it Live or Is It Memorex<\/a>?” The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made me think about these commercials again. Is it live\/real or is it AI?<\/p>\n

Now someone has created an AI actor, Tilly Norwood<\/a>. Is she live? Is she real?<\/p>\n

My fertile (i.e. crap-filled) brain wonders, what if Tilly wasn’t the first AI “celebrity” and the first one is a well-kept secret?<\/p>\n

Let’s say he plays professional baseball. His stats are really good, both in batting and pitching. A true RenAI<\/strong>ssance man.<\/p>\n

Or is he pure AI? He has black hair–the most common color in humans. Brown eyes. Again, human-kind’s most common shade. Tilly Norwood has the same coloring. The “generic” human.<\/p>\n

The first several seasons the baseball player competed in the US weren’t spectacular, but AI hadn’t been as fully developed as it is now. He “glitched,” if you will. As AI improved, so did his playing.<\/p>\n

His backstory is full of phrases that sound more like programmng than learning, at least to me. He has allegedly achieved most of his goals. He is emulated and worshipped, like the Dalai Lama himself put on cleats and picked up a bat.<\/p>\n

Is he real or is he AI?<\/p>\n
