Believe

Long before Ted Lasso hung his now-famous BELIEVE sign in the AFC Richmond men’s locker room on the Apple TV show bearing his name, I had the same message hanging on my office wall.

An author friend sent me a button.

And a former boss’s holiday card hung in my corporate cubicle until the day I left that job. I brought it home and hung it in my writing space. I confess, this may have been after Ted Lasso, but it was certainly before I’d ever watched the show. (The glitter is actually silver, but is reflecting my yellow walls so that the photo appears to be gold glitter.)

Belief is important. Not necessarily religious conviction, but also belief in oneself. Belief that one can do whatever it is one sets out to do. Because if you don’t believe, you will undermine yourself and fail.

I start every morning with the affirmation: “I am an author. Writing is the best part of my day.” I believe this, and the affirmation reminds me. Daily. I believe this, and that makes it true.
