As I type this blog, post-season baseball is in progress. It is a chilly autumn day–the high will be in the mid-40s. I’ve been looking at the weather forecast all week, anticipating this day. Because I’m going to make chili for the first time this season. It’s perfect weather for it, and chili is the perfect meal to eat in front of a fall sporting event. I’m also considering baking an apple crisp. Because…it’s October, the weather is cooling down, and I’m in nesting mode.
When I told my husband what I’d planned, and the basics of why, he just looked at me like, “Okay.” He didn’t get the same picture as I did. This made me wonder if this “vision” I had in my head came from reading too many books, magazines, or watching too many movies. I mean, all that’s missing is the fire in the fireplace, and we haven’t used ours in decades. I am, however, currently burning a candle called “Backyard Bonfire” to help the mood.
I can’t help but wonder if I’ve been programmed or indoctrinated to have these urges to make warm, hearty food just because the weather has grown cooler. Am I a victim of marketing?
And does it even matter? As long as TV Stevie and I are happy with my meals, who cares why I decided to cook what I do?
